Family-based behavioural social facilitation treatment (FBSFT), delivered at an obesity outpatient clinic, improved weight-related outcomes significantly more than treatment as usual (TAU) among children aged six to 18 years with severe obesity, a study has found.

The research, published in Clinical Obesity, was a first attempt to deliver FBSFT within a public healthcare setting.
Children receiving FBSFT reduced their body mass index standard deviation score and percentage above the International Obesity Task Force cut-off for overweight significantly more than children enrolled in TAU.
