Support infant feeding in emergencies

During the Ukraine conflict and refugee crisis, Unicef, UN refugee agency UNHCR, the Global Nutrition Cluster, the Infant Feeding in Emergencies core group and partners issued a joint statement to ‘help secure immediate, coordinated, multi-sectoral action on infant and young child feeding’.

The guidance calls for all involved in the humanitarian response to protect, promote and support the feeding and care of infants and young children

This statement provides guidance on how to support mothers to initiate breastfeeding, how to keep all mothers and babies together, and how to support and protect infants and young children who are not breastfed.

It also offers advice on giving all carers of young children priority access to food, clothing, water, accommodation and psychosocial support.

The Unicef UK Baby Friendly Initiative has translated its guidance sheets on feeding into Ukrainian.
