Unite has called on the UK government to match the pay offer received and accepted by health workers in Scotland.
The pay offer in Scotland is 4.25% for 2025/26 and 3.75% for 2026/27, along with a guarantee that the increase will be at least 1% above the Consumer price index. Unite recommended members accept this offer, which they did (87%) in a member ballot in May.
Unite have advised the UK, Welsh and Northern Ireland Governments to pay close attention to these developments. The increase currently recommended by the UK government is lower at 2.8%.
Unite’s national officer for health Richard Munn said: ‘Unite members across the UK will expect that the example set by the Scottish Government is at the very least matched. They will also want to see real progress in respect of closing the pay gap with Scotland and restoring NHS pay to the real terms value as seen in 2010.’
