Northern Ireland: latest pre-school health visitor numbers are revealed

Northern Ireland’s Department of Health has published figures showing how many pre-school children were visited during 2021 and 2022 as part of the Healthy Child, Healthy Future framework.

During 2021/22, health visitors were expected to carry out 130,388 contacts to cover six review types for children across Northern Ireland, from the new baby review at 10 to 14 days after birth, to the two to two and-a-half year health review.

Some 88% of the reviews were completed, 79% were completed within the recommended timeframe, and a further 10% were completed outside the recommended timeframe. Around 12% of the reviews did not take place.

At the start of the pandemic in March 2020, some Healthy Child, Healthy Future reviews were paused. However, since June 2021, health and social care trusts have been working to catch up on those reviews that were missed.
