HVs: our value will always shine through

Long-serving CPHVA member HV Pam Fleetwood reflects on her career lessons and insights, while looking ahead to the future of health visiting.

From CPHVA’s first steps, a path of purpose grew,
A century and more of care, steadfast and always true.

Across five decades’ care, I’ve watched that vision stay,
A quiet, constant guardianship that guides us day by day.

And now the future calls us on, with challenges anew,
Yet still the heart of what we are, beats strong in all we do.

The work, begun so long ago, continues firm and sure,
A legacy of service past, a promise to endure.

I feel privileged to have been asked to pen a few words in honour of the longevity of our professional association – not that I am anywhere near old enough to have remembered the beginning of its creation!…

Pam completed her state registered nurse training in 1968 and qualified as a health visitor in 1972. She has worked in many areas of nursing and health, and is currently a staff nurse in a care home and clinical aromatherapist.
