England: Unite says NHS reforms fail to address funding and recruitment

19 March 2021

The Department of Health and Social Care set out legislative proposals NHS reforms in February in a white paper.

The reforms are intended to ‘support recovery by stripping away unnecessary legislative bureaucracy, empowering local leaders and services and tackling health inequalities’.

However, Unite the Union was quick to point out that the reforms fail to address the key concerns of extra funding, the recruitment and retention crisis, and how patients will benefit.

Unite said there was too much about tackling bureaucracy and not enough on how the integration of health and social care would function on a daily basis.

Unite national officer for health Jackie Williams said: ‘The devil will be in the detail as to how the promised improvements will roll out.’
