NMC reveals plans to move towards the ‘new normal’

22 July 2020

The NMC has proposed a series of gradual changes to help support nursing and midwifery students and professionals during this transition period in the Covid-19 pandemic.

The initial changes, which were due to be reviewed at the time of writing, focus on ‘enabling a more stable learning environment’ for students, and resuming previously paused fitness-to-practise hearings.

Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, chief executive and registrar for the NMC, said: ‘The pandemic has had a profound impact on how care and support for people is provided [...] It has also deeply affected the working lives of the professionals on our register and disrupted the education of nursing and midwifery students across the UK.’

She thanked all the students who have coped in extraordinary circumstances and ‘made such an amazing contribution’.
