Northern Ireland: Northern Health Staff told to clean their own work areas

09 May 2019

Office staff at the Northern Health Trust have been told they are now responsible for vacuuming, dusting and keeping their own work area clean.

Health professionals such as health visitors will now spend time on cleaning duties with cleaning materials provided by the trust.

According to a memo seen by BBC News, domestic staff will continue to clean kitchens and toilets.

Unite’s regional officer Kevin McAdam said: ‘While Unite understands the trust will retain cleaners in clinical areas, it simply ignores the large number of community nurses, health visitors, school nurses and many others who provide a clinical service from an office-based environment.

‘It is absurd that they should give that valuable time to replace other workers in a bid to save money.’
