Wales: lesson plans to teach young people healthy messages

11 April 2019

Encouraging young people to take responsibility for their health is now easier with the launch of an online resource containing lesson plans and practical information for those who deliver key public health messages.

The resource is based around topics such as icebreakers, emotional wellbeing, food and fitness, sexual health and relationships, smoking, alcohol, drugs and immunisation. It aims to support practitioners in their conversations with young people.

The toolkit, produced by Aneurin Bevan Gwent Public Health Team, is aimed at anyone who works with young people, including teachers and other school staff.

Mererid Bowley, consultant in public health, said: ‘It offers those who deliver health education the opportunity to encourage young people to take responsibility for their health and to reduce risky behaviours.’
