Scotland: £4m to drive CAMHS recruitment

08 February 2019

Another 80 staff in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) will be recruited in Scotland following a £4m investment.

The new staff – psychologists, nurses, allied health professionals and administration workers – will help reduce pressure on CAMHS and support new services, said mental health minister Clare Haughey.

The funding comes as a taskforce appointed by the Scottish Government and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities to review CAMHS published its delivery plan for improving services.

It recommended preventing young people being referred to specialist care by default, treating more in primary and community-based care, and providing more information on what to expect from CAMHS and how the system works.
