A suitably required candidate is sought to work as the named School Health Nurse for an identified High School/College and a cluster of Primary schools.

You will be asked:

  • To manage a defined caseload, using a public health approach to provide and maintain a high quality service that promotes the physical and mental health of the school aged population and their families.
  • To lead to the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme 5–19 and co-ordinate the delivery of public health interventions for the post holders assigned schools under the direction of the Team Leader. This will include immunisations, health screening/surveillance health assessment and a requirement to support the health needs of any vulnerable children/young people within the caseload. Work in collaboration with partnership agencies to address the needs of vulnerable children including those on the child protection register.
  • To provide cover in conjunction with other members of the school health team across WWL in times of annual leave and school holidays.

Prescribing may be required as part of the duties of this post and post holders must have their qualification annotated on a professional register. Applicants will be required to see patients and families face to face within a community setting. Therefore it cannot be ruled out that they may come in to contact with people who have COVID-19, although the Trust provides PPE and takes all reasonable steps to ask patients with symptoms to cancel appointments.

The Trust is committed to Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable adults and the post holder will be required to keep this at the forefront of their practice. An Enhanced DBS with checks against the Children's Barred lists will be obtained during pre-employment checks.
